Christian Mobile Tech - Mobile Technology from a Christian Perspective

Welcome to Christian Mobile Tech (CMT).

Mobile technology has become an engrained part of modern society in many parts of the world. It continues to expand almost daily. With this technology comes new and exciting ways for Christians to carry, study and share God's Word. CMT's goal is to provide a central location for Christians to stay informed about the mobile tech industry in general while offering practical ways for Christians to incorporate this technology into their daily lives.

Currently, our primary focus is on PDA's, smartphones, and Christian and other popular software for these types of devices. We will periodically report on cell phones, MP3 players and iPods(TM) as well.

Feel free to Contact CMT with your questions, suggestions or to find out more about joining the CMT team. Read more About CMT here.

PDAMill Palm Games Now Free
PalmJust a quick post this morning. From the PDAMill site:

"Several years ago, we developed many of our great titles for the Palm OS platform. However, in February of 2007 the decision to stop development for the Palm platform was made and our products were then discontinued.

Until now, all of these titles were only available to customers who had purchased the games in the past. Due to an incredibly high demand, we have now released all of our past Palm titles for FREE!

However, please be advised that these titles come with no warranty, no support, and may well not work on your device (the very reason we discontinued development for the platform). If you have any troubles with the games, do not contact support as you will not receive a reply."

For more information, visit PDAMill.

Bible On The Go
EditorialsAs more and more people embrace the mobile lifestyle, many Christians search for a convenient way to access Scriptures on-the-go. One option is to view the Bible online via a mobile device. I've found several for your consideration.

http://zbible.mobi
Zondervans mobile offering has 10 Bible versions including the NIV, ESV, KJV and NASB.

http://mobible.org
This site offers 16 languages including English, Dutch, French and Spanish. The English version includes the WEB, KJV, NIV and ASV Bibles. Other languages' Bible versions vary. Other options available include Daily Readings, Psalm of the Day and devotional readings.

http://gnpcb.org/esv/mobile
Good News Publishers brings the ESV to mobile users, as well as devotions and reading plans.

http://gospelshare.org/KJ2000/index.htm
GospelShare's online Bible, the King James 2000 version, displays very nicely on mobile devices.

While other choices are available, these stand above the rest as offering quick and easy access to the Bible for Christians in their daily mobile lives.

Google's Mobile Options
NewsFor mobile users, Google has some options available to make your web browsing experience a bit more enjoyable. The first is a mobile version of the Google search interface. Type http://google.com/m into your browser on your mobile device and you are presented with several options to customize the page, including Gmail, weather, stocks and news. There is also an older version of this mobile interface still available at http://google.com/m/i which some may prefer.

Then there is Google Mobilizer, http://google.com/gwt/n. Type in the URL of the site you wish to visit, choose whether you want images displayed, and hit Go. The web site entered will be displayed in a more mobile-friendly format. Most sites are rendered quite nicely, but not all. Subsequently, all links followed from the mobile-rendered site will also be displayed in the mobile format. For those that maintain their own web site, I have found that Google Mobilizer is a quick and simple way to provide mobile visitors to your site with a mobile-friendly view. For an example, view CMT in it's mobile format. Happy mobile browsing!

Site Updates
AnnouncementsI've updated some links in the Site Navigation heading (left column). Updated links now include two mobile friendly versions of CMT. The first runs the site through Google Mobilizer, the second shows only the CMT News articles.

The other link updates are for RSS feeds. The first link will allow CMT's RSS feed to be displayed in IE, which does not display RSS feeds with DTD's (whatever those are). The second link will not display in IE, but will display in RSS Readers.

Recent Releases From Laridian and Olivetree
NewsI thought it worth mentioning some recent releases from Laridian and Olivetree.

The first is New Testament Sermon Starters Volumes 1 - 4 from Laridian. This collection brings together four years worth of New Testament word study outlines, excellent for preaching, teaching and personal study. Each volume contains 52 outlines, previously published in Pulpit Helps Magazine. Each outline follows the lectionary system and is available for Palm OS, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile for Smartphones and Windows PC's for $19.99.

The other is from Olivetree and is the Five Love Languages Collection by Gary Chapman. These popular and well-known Love Language books have been a great source of counseling and guidance to couples, singles, children, men and Christians. This collection offers a wealth of insight, knowledge and vignettes to readers about love in our relationships with spouses, children, peers, coworkers and family. Included in this collection are The Five Love Languages, The Five Languages of Apology, The Five Love Languages For Singles, The Five Love Languages of Children, The Love Languages of God, The Five Love Languages, Men's Edition and The Five Love Languages for Teenagers. This collection is available for Palm OS, Symbian, Pocket PC and Windows Mobile for Smartphones for $24.95.

Bejeweled 2 Update Released
NewsAstraware's Bejeweled 2 has been updated with the release of version 1.30. This release is a major update to improve support with newer Treo devices. It also marks the first release for Windows Mobile Standard devices.

To celebrate this release, I thought I would share a couple of links you might find of interest. The first is a link to Astraware's Knowledge Base detailing the various hidden game modes available for Bejeweled 2. That information can be found here and includes Original, Hyper, Cognito, Finity and Twilight Modes.

The second link is to the site of the artist that wrote the soundtrack for Bejeweled 2. That link is here. Scroll down the page to the heading "2004/11/18 - Beyond the Network - the Bejeweled 2 soundtrack." Enjoy!

    Astraware Solitaire Updated
    News
One of my most favorite games is Astraware Solitaire. It is a collection of 12 different solitaire games which include Klondike, Pyramid, Spider, Clock, Yukon, Canfield, Four Seasons, Sultan's Harem, Idiot's Delight, Golf, Calculation, and Freecell. Each game is completely customizable, allowing for any variation of the standard rules to be played. As is Astraware tradition, Astraware Solitaire has been released as special editions with different card backs being the bonus. The first was Halloween followed by a Winter edition. But now Astraware has updated the game to allow for add-on packs. The add-on packs are - you guessed it - the special edition card backs. And with this update comes a new set of special edition card backs just in time for Valentine's Day. Astraware Solitaire is available for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms and for Palm OS. And don't forget the add-on card packs.
